OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Fewer shipping container deliveries this spring hurt CSX railroad’s second-quarter profit and offset a sharp increase in shipments of automobiles, but executives remain optimistic about the economy.CSX said Thursday that it earned $996 million, or 49 cents per share, during the second quarter. That’s down 15% from a year ago when the Jacksonville, Florida-based railroad’s results were helped by a $122 million land sale. Last year, CSX reported earnings of $1.18 billion, or 54 cents per share. That was in line with what analysts surveyed by FactSet Research expected. The total number of shipments CSX delivered slipped 3% in the quarter as it handled 10% fewer intermodal shipping containers. But a 21% jump in automotive shipments provided a meaningful boost to the railroad.CSX executives seemed more concerned with preserving and improving good service than the prospect of a possible recession because several categories of freight they handle are stil...

CLEAR CREEK COUNTY, Colo. (KDVR) -- According to the Colorado-based nonprofit Adaptive Adventures, just being in the outdoors is therapeutic. They say it is good medicine. With the roar of Clear Creek as a backdrop, members of the organization came hiking down the trail alongside the rushing water single file — United States military veterans from various backgrounds with different experiences. But they all share one common denominator: post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.Under the watchful eyes of professional climbers and instructors, they faced another challenge: climbing up a near-vertical granite buttress. This is powerful medicine, Adaptive Adventure climbing instructor Craig DeMartino said. Colorado firefighters travel to Ukraine to teach trauma treatment techniques “When they get in this environment they are not distracted. They are very focused on what they are doing, so climbing into the flow state, which means you are only paying attention to what you are doing,” he ...

A water main break has led city officials to issue a precautionary boil water notice for a large portion of Miami Beach.According to city officials, a private contractor hit a 20-inch water main along Sixth Street, just west of Alton Road, Thursday afternoon.Due to the loss of water pressure caused by the rupture, officials said, a boil water notice is in effect for all areas south of 23rd Street, from the ocean to Biscayne Bay., including the Sunset Harbour neighborhood. The Venetian Islands, however, have not been affected and are not part of the advisory.Officials said the advisory will remain in effect until drinking water tests come back clear for two consecutive days.Officials advise all residents, visitors and businesses in the affected area to boil all water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth or washing dishes. A rolling boil of one minute is enough.

The 34-year-old allowed the two runs in the first two innings of the game with Eloy Jiminez’s RBI single and Elvis Andrus’ sac-fly in the second. However, Quintana’s counterpart was just slightly better as Michael Kopech kept the Amazin’s bats at bay in the afternoon matchup.Kopech tossed 5.2 innings allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five. The Mets did work four walks against the 27-year-old, however, Omar Narvaez’s fifth-inning solo homer — his first as a Met — was the only damage they could...

The Boston Licensing Board is weighing whether Monica’s Trattoria should remain open, given the status of its current manager, who is facing an attempted murder charge in connection with last week’s North End shooting.Patrick Mendoza is on the run from police, and did not appear as requested at a Thursday Licensing Board meeting that was convened to review his “character and fitness” as licensee and manager of record at the North End restaurant. His absence is grounds for revoking, suspending or modifying his liquor license, according to Licensing Board Chair Kathleen Joyce.William Ferullo, an attorney for the restaurant, urged the board to follow “its own precedent,” and allow for a replacement manager to be appointed, which he said has been granted in the past when managers get sick, become incapacitated or take a vacation. This would allow the restaurant to remain open, he said.“I would have to take issue with this,” Joyce said. “This is really unprecedented. We do have precedents...
